R&D Overview |
| Velti has realized that consumer space is constantly changing. Fixed-mobile convergence, triple play, mobile web, web social network revolution, virtual and augmented reality applications are the driving forces that are changing the marketing and advertising landscape. R&D strategy aims at enhancing Velti's offering to cover a larger footprint within the new consumer ecosystem approaching consumers with physical location marketing (on their way to work), IPTV targeted and interactive advertising (when back from work) and web engagement tools (when consumers are in front of their PC and/or in their favorite social network). Following this strategy Velti's R&D range of interest includes a vast spectrum centered on the company's core focus, namely the mobile phone and the platforms required by organizations to administer such hybrid services. |
| Areas of Interest |
Social Networking & User Generated Content
Social networking platforms for building converged mobile and online cross social communities and content sharing services The goal of such platforms is to offer converged mobile/online social communities that will allow their subscribers to seamlessly push, pull, share and distribute rich content they generate via their mobile handset and other end devices.
Virtual Worlds
Virtual online 3D worlds that allow users to interact via 3D avatars with other online users, through a variety of terminal types In these worlds they can engage in social networking activities with other avatars as well as access rich and branded content. Our activities involve both research of new media content production techniques and development of hybrid commercial application scenarios.
Augmented Reality
Augmented reality applications through barcode technologies for engaging commercial applications. We view barcodes as real hyperlinks that can be used to bridge physical reality with digital information. We research how to effectively add such digital identities to all types of physical.
Mobile Governance
Moving from “e” to “m” Governance. New innovative public services reach more and more citizens exploiting the penetration of mobile usage. Public authorities and organizations are coming closer to citizen by providing e-services directly to their mobile phone. M-Gov is the next generation communication channel for organizations and authorities. Applications like m-participation and m-democracy are coming to our daily lives. VELTI research and develops m-services based on user needs and Governance requirements. New services for Health, Education, Transportation, Finance a.o. utilizing cellular networks and mobile digital content delivery mechanisms.
Mobile Service Platforms: SOA based Service Orchestration, SDP for IMS architectures
The list of operators deploying Service Delivery Platforms (SDP) worldwide is grown significantly over the last years. SDP vendors enables a standardized way of creating, aggregating and executing multiple service types across different types of network, that run on legacy service delivery platforms including those based on IP Multimedia subsystem (IMS). Operators aim to deploy SDP solutions in order to reduce the cost of new services introduction, to efficiently orchestrate disparate services and associated processes, and to better manage the customer-service relationship. Velti is expanding its existing MMP architecture with high-end Service Orchestration capabilities for SOA and IMS.
Pervasive Services: Context Awareness, Service Adaptation, and Content Management
The huge market potential of mobile services and applications that run in an increasingly diverse set of mobile devices have turned mobile operator’s focus to adopt standardized service orientations for addressing those dynamic environments. Context based service elaboration and deployment has been of major importance as a fundamental step to enable pervasive services framework that will allow the support of other services like Virtual Identities. Furthermore service adaptation based on context adaptation is another important concept for leveraging the deployment of mobile applications that requires content management.
Velti already delivers high expertise in content management solutions for web applications and expands existing service frameworks to pervasive ones exploiting context aware concepts in distributed heterogeneous access environments.
Autonomic Networking and Services: Research on self-configuration and
self-adaptation mechanisms in networking infrastructures for service autonomy
Autonomic computing is expected to meet wide acceptance in the IT and Telecommunications community in the close future. It will enable the circumstances to make communication systems more flexible, reliable, secure, and of increased performance due to the inherent change in the self-management philosophy introduced. Performance of such systems is continuously monitored, and feed backed to a policy based process that decides about their future behavior. Velti is already a core partner in a large EU project on autonomics and plans to invest in incorporating autonomic concepts for efficient service management.
Near Field Communications
Converging “networked” mobile phone with proximity services bring us to the Near Field Communications. Contactless services taking advantage of RF technologies and Mobile Services. Payments, redeems, authorization and other services could be support by this state-of-the-art technology. VELTI is focusing mainly in the NFC on the Mobile. We are looking into solutions and architectures that could provide a smart way of exploiting mobile phones for daily activities by using RF near proximity technologies. |
